Dollar Report of 1958

The following is a copy of the letter to the Canadian Governor General seeking the issue of a proclamation for the 1958 British Columbia Commemorative.

TO HIS EXCELLENCY

THE GOVERNOR GENERAL IN COUNCIL:  

The undersigned has the honour to report that by Section 8 of the Currency, Mint, and Exchange Fund Act it is provided that Your Excellency in Council may by proclamation, determine the design of any coin.  

The undersigned, accordingly, recommends that under and by virtue of the said Section, a proclamation of Your Excellency do issue determining the design of the one dollar piece to be struck to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the gold rush and the creation of British Columbia as a Crown Colony in 1858 as follows:  

1. The design of the obverse impression shall he the uncrowned effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second with the inscription "Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina."  

2. The design of the reverse impression shall be a representation of a totem pole, with the word "CANADA" at the upper left, the figures "1858-1958" at the left, the words "British Columbia" on the right, mountains in the background, and at the bottom the word "DOLLAR." The coin shall have a graining on the edge.  

The undersigned further recommends that any proclamation that may issue, founded on this recommendation, shall become effective on the second day of January, 1958.
